ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY
It was a cold and rainy Saturday morning but the spirits remained high as eight Unity team members gathered to pick up trash along I-5. The team collected 31 bags of trash from the Meridian exit to the Bakerview exit, along the west side of the freeway.
This initiative was started by Sheldon Satterthwaite (Commercial Insurance Department) in 2002. Each year he coordinates two highway clean up efforts by The Unity Group. One cleanup occurs in the Spring and another in the Fall. Hundreds of bags of trash have been collected over the years.
"It's really sad to think there are still people out there who just don't care and continue to litter" commented Sheldon. Proud of his community and fueled by ambition to improve it, he will continue to implement the Adopt-A-Highway program at Unity in 2012.
Thank you to all of the employees who weathered the cold to help keep Whatcom County beautiful!
